ATM’s are located at the Birdsville Hotel Cash-out is also available at the Birdsville Roadhouse.
Is the Birdsville tap water drinkable?
Yes. Our water comes from the Artesian Bore and is safe to drink. If you need to fill your jerry cans and caravan/RV tanks, There are a row of 10 taps out at the free camping aera where you can fill up.
Where can I get a meal or a great coffee in Birdsville?
The Birdsville Hotel serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner daily.
Where can I purchase ice?
Bags of ice can be purchased from the Birdsville Hotel, Birdsville Roadhouse, and Birdsville Fuel Services.
Is Wi-Fi internet available in Birdsville?
Yes. Wi-Fi is available at the Wirrarri Visitor Information Centre.
Is there a pharmacy?
No. There is no pharmacy in Birdsville so please make sure you bring an adequate supply of medication with you.
Where can I get fuel in Birdsville?
Fuel for your outback adventure and travels around The Diamantina is available at the Birdsville Roadhouse and Birdsville Fuel Services. Please note that there is no Auto gas available in Birdsville.
Is there a mechanic in town?
Yes. Pop in and see Barnsey at the Birdsville Roadhouse for mechanical or tyre repairs. Birdsville Fuel Service also does tyre repairs.
Where can I get my gas bottles refilled for my outback road trip?
Not Just Hardware offers a gas bottle refill service.
Where can I post a letter?
The post office is located at Birdsville Fuel Services, across from the hotel beer garden in the main street.
Can I get a Desert Parks Pass in Birdsville?
Yes. Desert Parks Passes are available from the Wirrarri Visitor Information Centre along with satellite phone hire, road condition updates, weather updates and any other information you may require. You can also pick up a Desert Parks Pass from the Birdsville Fuel Services and Birdsville Roadhouse.
Where can I get permits for Diamantina National Park?
Permits are available online at www.parks.nprsr.qld.gov.au/permits or call 137468.
How can I get to Birdsville and the Diamantina Shire?
Rex Airlines fly into Birdsville from Brisbane on Mondays and Thursdays, and from Mt Isa on Tuesdays and Fridays. Driving from the North: We are located 376km South of Boulia. There is roughly 70km of unsealed road, 10km of that being between Boulia and Bedourie and 60km between Bedourie and Birdsville. Driving from the East: We are 382km west of Windorah, roughly 280km is an unsealed road. Windorah is the last fuel stop before Birdsville. Driving from the South via the Birdsville Track: We are 520km North of Marree, this route is all unsealed. Driving from the south via Innamincka: There are three different ways and they are all unsealed. Via Walkers Crossing is 340km (we recommend not towing anything along this route), via Cordillo Downs is 442km & via Planet Arraburry Road is 511km.

What accommodation is available in Birdsville?
Accommodation is available at the Birdsville Hotel which offers hotel rooms. The Birdsville Tourist Park offers rooms, cabins, powered sites, and unpowered sites, The BIrdsville lodge has 49 ensuited cabins which can be booked through the BIrdsville Tourist Park, Alternatively, there are free camping available in Birdsville. Contact the Wirrarri Information Centre for more information.
Can I camp at Big Red?
No. Big Red is on private property and no camping is permitted (with the exception of the Big Red Bash).
Where can I purchase groceries in Birdsville?
The Birdsville Roadhouse and Birdsville Fuel Services both stock basic groceries.
Amenities - Toilets and Showers
There are public toilets located in Anzac Park and Wirrarri Information Centre. Showers are available at the Birdsville Roadhouse, or Birdsville Caravan Park., We also have a shower block available over the BIg Red Bash and Birdsville Races which is located behide the Wirrarri Information Centre, Pop in and see the staff at the counter and they will gladly be of service.
