Overview

Diamantina National Park is home to many rare and threatened species. Lake Constance and Hunters Gorge are important wetlands and support breeding populations of many resident and migratory birds.

Formerly a pastoral holding this park sweeps across highly weathered sandstone ranges in the east, down to the floodplains of the Diamantina River and its tributaries, then across Mitchell grass plains to dune-fields reminiscent of deserts further west.

Camping is permitted at Hunters Gorge and Gum Hole camping areas. Enjoy spectacular sunsets and abundant birdlife from the banks of the Diamantina River at Hunters Gorge camping area, or relax beside Whistling Duck Creek and enjoy bush camping beneath shady coolibah trees at Gum Hole camping area.

Camping permits are required, and fees apply. Book and purchase your camping permit in advance. Bookings can be made on-line, over the counter or by phone.

Even small amounts of rain can make roads impassable so always be prepared and have at least a week’s worth of extra supplies in case of stranding.
