A Show-Stopping Outback First — Opera Queensland to Perform at the Betoota Races

In an exciting cultural first for outback Queensland, Opera Queensland will take centre stage at the 2025 Betoota Races on Saturday, August 30, bringing a show-stopping musical experience to Australia’s smallest town.

As part of Opera Queensland’s 2025 regional tour, their new production All Together Now! blends opera classics with pop hits, folk favourites and iconic Aussie anthems. Designed to bring people together through song, the performance invites audiences of all ages and backgrounds to sing along and share in the joy.

President of the Betoota Race Club, Kerry Morton, said the club was proud to partner with Diamantina Shire Council and Opera Queensland to deliver an unforgettable arts event alongside the town’s legendary race meet.

"The Betoota Races have always been a celebration of the outback spirit—and this year, we're taking that celebration to a whole new level," said Race Club spokesperson Roxy Weston. "Whether you're here for the horses, the dust, the mateship, or now, the music—there’ll be something for everyone."

Diamantina Shire Mayor Francis Murray said the performance reflects Council’s ongoing commitment to cultural enrichment and community connection across the region.

"It’s not every day you get to experience the magic of opera under the vast outback sky," Mayor Murray said. "This partnership is a brilliant example of how we can come together in new ways while celebrating everything that makes remote Queensland unique."

All Together Now! will be performed on Saturday afternoon at the Betoota Racecourse, following the final race. Locals and visitors alike are invited to join this extraordinary fusion of music, community and classic outback hospitality.
